Lyrics

Come Home Again

He's got grease under his nails and a Bible in his hand
Old coveralls and a farmer's tan
With his head buried under an old Chevy hood
And his feet planted firmly on all that is good

He'd come home from work and wash off the dirt
Tell a story and laugh 'till it hurt
Then he'd sit at the table and bow his head
Give thanks for his blessings and our daily bread

What I can't figure out is what he's doing here
With all these old folks all asleep in their chairs
He used to be able to fix anything
Why can't he fix this and come home again

You know I've been thinking maybe I should drop by
My truck ain't been running right
I'm sure he could fix it, it shouldn't take much
Besides it's been awhile it'd be nice to catch up

What I can't figure out is what he's doing here
With all these old folks all asleep in their chairs
He used to be able to fix anything
Why can't he fix this and come home again
